Jamie 2i0MFB wins IRTS Award

LEARC Chairman Tommy Mi0RVH has asked me to circulate hearty congratulations from the Chairman, Committee and Members to Jamie 2i0MFB.
The Contest Corner page of December’s Echo Ireland, the IRTS magazine reports the results of the 2m Counties Contest, Autumn 2011, Section (b) Low Power Portable. Our Jamie 2i0MFB won the Award for top scoring station outside the Republic in this section.

His 2i0MFB Fermanagh station was up on Carnmore near Roslea with a rotatable antenna. He made 25 QSOs across 7 counties for a 413 score. Jamie’s was one of two NI stations that feature in the results. Moreover, he was very likely by far the contest’s youngest operator. This same award was won last year by an older local amateur.
The Club can take great pride from Jamie’s success. From our courses last year, Jamie was one of three teenagers to get a Foundation license. In February this year he did the club course and got an Intermediate license. (He has postponed the advanced exam for full license to concentrate on important A-levels)
At 2011 AGM he took on the Treasurer’s post by way of returning service to the Club that has served him well. Jamie is 18 in January 2012 and then eligible to apply to be a Registered Assessor. He has done valuable instructing work in recent months.
In June's IRTS Summer 80m Counties Contest our LEARC station in SHARE won the similar top outside EI award in the SSB fixed section. Both awards (and others won meantime!) will be presented at the IRTS AGM in Dundalk, on Sunday 22 April 2012 - three weeks after our rally
