RADIO AMATEUR OLD TIMERS DUE AT RALLY

RAOTA, the Radio Amateur Old Timers Association will have a stand at the Lough Erne Rally on Sunday 1 April 2012. RAOTA seeks to keep alive the pioneer spirit and traditions of the past in today’s amateur radio. 
RAOTA gatherings and nets on the bands, the hundred issues to-date of its quarterly magazine, OT News, antenna books etc are a huge, historic and technical treasure of amateur radio lore much of it still pertinent today.

Intermediate License Course - Sun 29 Jan

Lough Erne Amateur Radio Club plans another course, practical assessments and the examination for the award of an Intermediate amateur radio license by Ofcom. The Introductory session will be on Sunday 29 January, 1.00 to 6.00 pm in the Share Centre. Contact Michael Clarke Mi5MTC - details below.

2M TRANSAT BEACON IN FERMANAGH?

Transatlantic radio contact has never been achieved – yet - on the 2 metre band. At RSGB request, Gordon Gi6ATZ plans a 2 meter transatlantic beacon beamed from Fermanagh (most westerly part nearest to the Atlantic in the UK) and has applied to Ofcom for the license. Lough Erne ARC strongly welcomes and pledged support for a project good to have in its county and potentially an historic, international amateur radio achievement.

BBC - Lough Erne, Bismarck 1941 & Radio - UPDATE

Another BBC TV series Dig WW2 with Dan Snow is due soon. It will feature the Catalina flying boats from RAF Killadeas that searched for the Bismarck with radio help in May 1941.

LOGS - IRTS 80m Counties Contest Jan 2011

IRTS News on Sunday 8 January reports the "IRTS 80 metres counties contest, held on Monday 2nd January was well supported, with plenty of activity right up to the last minute of the contest. Most
counties appeared to be represented, although some made  only a brief appearance. Our reporters tell us that Carlow, Cavan and Kerry were top of the "most wanted" list, with other sizeable counties like Tipperary and Waterford not far behind.
(Surely there were stations active in Cavan)

Jamie 2i0MFB wins IRTS Award

LEARC Chairman Tommy Mi0RVH has asked me to circulate hearty congratulations from the Chairman, Committee and Members to Jamie 2i0MFB.
The Contest Corner page of December’s Echo Ireland, the IRTS magazine reports the results of the 2m Counties Contest, Autumn 2011, Section (b) Low Power Portable. Our Jamie 2i0MFB won the Award for top scoring station outside the Republic in this section.

LEARC Shares £500 Prize with SHARE

Lough Erne Amateur Radio Club's submission to RSGB for the Club of the Year Award strongly mentioned the SHARE Centre's vital part in the Club's successes.  The UK Runner-Up Award was presented at the Derby RSGB AGM in May 2010. June meeting agreed to share half the £500 prize money with SHARE.
