RADIO AMATEUR OLD TIMERS DUE AT RALLY

RAOTA, the Radio Amateur Old Timers Association will have a stand at the Lough Erne Rally on Sunday 1 April 2012. RAOTA seeks to keep alive the pioneer spirit and traditions of the past in today’s amateur radio.
RAOTA gatherings and nets on the bands, the hundred issues to-date of its quarterly magazine, OT News, antenna books etc are a huge, historic and technical treasure of amateur radio lore much of it still pertinent today.
In a total of about 750, there are over 20 RAOTA members in Northern Ireland,  almost 10 in the Republic and 2 in LEARC.
RAOTA and the rally host club, LEARC hope that many more will consider joining this most interesting Association.
This development comes from an initiative by Mid Ulster ARC member, Jimmy Lappin GI0OND. Jimmy got a lot of magazines etc from the RAOTA stand at Blackpool Rally and brought them over to display at April's Silver Anniversary Lough Erne Rally.
In May, Alan Gi6PYP and Michael Mi5MTC met RAOTA's rally stand organiser Dave Simmonds G3JKB and XYL Jacqui at the RSGB AGM in Derby.   LEARC set the rally date 1 April, it suited, and RAOTA's Lough Erne rally plan got first brief mention in Issue 98 of OT News. There will be more in Issue 101 due to publish shortly before the Rally.
